Alison McCarey Ceramics
Blue, Purple, and Yellow
This is my first semester in a Ceramics class, and I have really loved it. My favorite technique was throwing plates. So for my Spring Art Show, I decided to make a set of plates with a unique glazing style. I chose plates because it was the technique that was the most interesting to me. For my glazing, I did a white dip glaze for the base, and then I did splatter glazing over that base layer. To do this, I had to dip my plate in the white glaze, and then splatter many different glaze colors over that. The colors I chose were blue, purple, and yellow. I really liked these color combinations because it reminded me of the Spring season. I chose to do splatter glazing because it is a unique technique, and you can experiment with many different combinations. The idea that I wanted to convey was abstract expressionism. I learned many new things this year in Ceramics, and I am excited to learn even more techniques in the years to come.
